This trip focuses on the work of Giorgio Morandi, 1890-1964. Of all the books in the library, the catalogue of the Morandi Museum is one of the most looked at. This is because he is the one artist we can see in Italy that ties together direct experience from nature with the history of art from a thoroughly modern perspective. He drew incessantly, and studied the great masters from Giotto to Piero della Francesca and on to Chardin, Corot and Cezanne. He is one of the great masters of the 20th century.
