Martha Armstrong

Martha Armstrong received her M.S. degree from Rhode Island School of Design and her B.A. from Smith College. She has taught at Kansas City Art Institute, Bryn Mawr College, Indiana University, Smith College, Mt. Holyoke, Dartmouth, Hollins University, and been visiting artist at schools including Rhode Island School of Design, Maryland Art Institute, and American University. Her work has been shown solo at The Bowery Gallery, the Kansas City Art Institute, Haverford College, Gross McCleaf and Mulligan-Shanoski Gallery. Ms. Armstrong has shown in group exhibitions at the National Academy of Design and Lyman Allyn Art Museum, Woodmere Art Museum, Allentown Art Museum, among others. Her work is included in permanent collections at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Woodmere Art Museum, and the State Museum of Pennsylvania. Martha Armstrong is represented by Gross-McLeaf Gallery, Philadelphia; Mulligan-Shanoski Gallery, San Francisco; Prince Street Gallery, N.Y. She lives and works in Hatfield, Massachusetts.

Lucy Barber

Lucy Barber received her MFA from Brooklyn College and BFA from Pratt Institute. She also studied at the New York Studio School, and the New York Academy of Art. She has had solo exhibitions at Denise Bibro, Davidson & Daughters Contemporary Art, Andrews Gallery, The Putney School, Westbeth Gallery and First Street Gallery, and in group exhibitons including Portland Museum of Art, Albright-Knox Gallery, Boston University, Dartmouth College, National Academy of Design, Bowery Gallery and Kouros Gallery. Her work is in the collections including Bates College Museum of Art, U.S. Department of State, Bryn Mawr College, General Electric, Lenox, Inc.and Pfizer, and she has received awards and grants from Bowdoin College, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Vermont Studio Center, and Millay Colony for the Arts. Ms. Barber has taught at Brooklyn College, Pratt Institute, Maine College of Art, Bowdoin College, College of William & Mary and State University of New York at Farmingdale.

Paul Beel

Paul Beel received his BFA and MFA from the School of Art at Bowling Green State University, Ohio. He did Post-Baccalaureate work at Studio Art Centers International, Florence, Italy, where he later taught painting and drawing. He has had solo shows in Venice, Milan, Florence, Mantova, as well as in the US, and group shows in Spain, Germany, San Marino, Switzerland and throughout Italy. Paul Beel is represented by is Bonelli Arte Contemporanea in Mantova. He lives and works in Florence.

Pamela Bowers

Pam Bowers earned her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her MFA from Indiana University, where she studied painting with Robert Barnes. During this time she also lived and studied in Italy, developing a special focus on Venetian Painting. An avid researcher and traveler, she has created work in Europe, Central America, North Africa, Asia. She has received numerous awards in this pursuit including a Doctoral Research Grant from Indiana University, an Associate Faculty Research Grant also from Indiana University, an Interdisciplinary Arts Grant from the Arts Institute of the University of South Carolina and a Lilly Endowment Fellowship, the latter allowing her to research important influences in tribal areas of Southeast Asia. Her work has been exhibited widely in solo exhibitions in the United States and Internationally. Most recently, she exhibited her work in a retrospective solo exhibition at the McKissick Museum at the University of South Carolina. Her work was also featured in a unique interdisciplinary solo exhibition held in conjunction with an international conference on the life and work of poet James Dickey. Dickey was an important influence on her work and the exhibition drew parallels between their work in respective disciplines. Last summer, she exhibited works on paper at the International School of Art.

Roberto Caracciolo, Lecturer

Roberto Caracciolo lives and works in Rome. He studied at the United World College of the Atlantic, at the Institute of Art of Urbino, and at the New York Studio School. He has had solo exhibitions at Janie C. Lee Gallery in Houston, Andre' Emmerich Gallery in New York, Galleria Valeria Belvedere in Milan, Galleria Totem - Il Canale in Venice, Galerie Alessandro Vivas in Paris, the Earl McGrath gallery in NY where he is currently represented, and other galleries in Rome, Mantua, Turin, Catania, and Milan. He has shown in group exhibitions throughout Italy and in France, Germany, New York, Florida and California. Mr. Caracciolo has lectured or critiqued at the Accademia di Belli Arti in Torino, the University of Siena, the Accademia di Belli Arti in Perugia, Rhode Island School of Design program in Rome, New York University Masters in Art Program in Venice. He presently teaches at New York University in Florence.

Jeffrey Carr

Jeffrey Carr received his B.A. from the University of California at Santa Cruz, and an M.F.A. from the Yale University School of Art. He also attended the New York Studio School of Drawing and Painting. Before coming to St. Mary's, he taught at a number of universities and art schools, includingHe has exhibited his figurative paintings and still-life paintings in numerous one-person and group exhibitions in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York. He taught at Indiana University and the Herron School of Art, and was the Chair of the Department of Art & Art History at St. Mary's College. Professor Carr is currently Dean of Academic Affairs at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

Jeffrey Carr was one of six artists who were selected to exhibit during the Columbia Festival of the Arts 2000 season. His work was shown in the Slayton House Gallery in Columbia, Maryland. He was the subject of a one-person show this October at the Arts Program Gallery of the University of Maryland University College.

Bruno Ceccobelli, Visiting Artist

Bruno Cecobelli was born in 1952 in Todi, where he currently lives and works. He studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome and later, independently, ancient and modern philosophies and religions. His first show was in 1972. He has had 120 solo exhibitions, and 320 group exhibitions, in 25 different countries and in 63 Italian cities. His works are exhibited in 13 museums around the world. Recently Ceccobelli has been working on sculptures -- metaphysics and symbolic shapes in bronze and marble. His spiritual poetics are expressed in symbolic, iconographic shapes with soft colors.

Ronald M. Cohen

Ronald M. Cohen received his BFA from the Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts) and his MFA from Queens College, CUNY in 1973. Mr. Cohen first exhibited at The Bykert Gallery in New York City and at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia. In 1980 he was awarded his first National Endowment for the Arts Individual Artist Fellowship Grant in Sculpture. The restrictions of the minimalist/conceptual genre eventually moved him to consider another direction. Mr. Cohen was then awarded an Illinois Arts Council Grant and a major award from the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in 1984-5 for his painted constructions. In 1992, he was awarded an Ingram-Merrill Foundation Grant for representational painting and in 1993-4, received a second major award in the category of painting from the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, DC. Over the past thirty years Mr. Cohen has taught at a number of colleges and universities including Indiana University, University of Texas, University of Chicago, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Rhode Island School Of Design, Knox College, The State University of New York at Albany and Louisiana State University. Since 1991 he has taught at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Mr. Cohen is represented by The Peter Tatistcheff Gallery in New York City.

Alan Feltus

Alan Feltus was born in Washington, DC. He received his BFA from Cooper Union and his MFA from Yale University. He has received numerous awards and grants including the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the Benjamin Altman Prize, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Louis Tiffany Foundation, and the Rome Prize. His work is in the collections of the American Academy in Rome, the Arkansas Art Center, the Cornell Fine Arts Museum in Florida, the Dayton Art Institute, the Hirshhorn Museum, the National Academy Museum, the NJ State Museum, the Oklahoma City Art Museum, the Springfield Museum and the Wichita Art Museum. Since 1972 Mr. Feltus has had solo exhibitions in NY, Atlanta, Massachusetts, Kansas, New Orleans, Washington DC and Rome, and recently at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. He has taught at Maryland Institute College of Art, American University, the University of New Hampshire, University of Virginia, Indiana University, and the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts. He is currently represented by the Forum Gallery and the Ann Nathan Gallery.

Bruce Gagnier

Bruce Gagnier studied at Williams College and received his MFA from Columbia University, where he was sculpture assistant to Peter Agostini. He has had solo exhibitions in New York at M-13 Gallery and Leslie Cecil Gallery, in Ft. Lauderdale at Gaumann Cicchino Gallery, and at the University of Kentucky and group exhibitions in New York City and around New York State, in Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Wisconsin. Mr. Gagnier won a New Jersey State Council Fellowship Grant, a Brevoort Eikenmeyer Fellowship, a Columbia University School of Engineering Purchase Prize and a Skowhegan Painting Prize. For over 25 years Mr. Gagnier has taught painting, sculpture, drawing and art history in schools including Yale University, Sarah Lawrence College, the University of North Carolina, City University of New York, Haverford College, Parsons School of Design MFA program, New York Studio School, Chautauqua Institution School of Art. He was Dean of the New York Studio School from 1979-87 and acting chairman of Parsons School of Design's MFA painting program from 1990-93. He currently teaches at the New York Studio School.

Dan Gustin

Dan Gustin studied at Kansas City Art Institute and at Yale University. He has had solo exhibitions at the Lyons Weir, Bowery, Forum, Alpha, J. Rosenthal, Weatherburn, and Munson Galleries, the Paul Mellon Arts Center, and the Rockford Art Museum. He has shown in over fifty group exhibitions throughout the United States. His work is in the Joseph Hirshhorn Collection, Worcester Art Museum, Buffalo College Museum, Miller Drawing Collection, Richard and Jalene Davidson Drawing Collection, the Art Institute of Chicago, and in private collections in New York and Chicago. Mr. Gustin has won grants from the Illinois Arts Council, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago Faculty Enrichment Grants and the National Endowment for the Arts. In 1972 he was teaching assistant to William Bailey at Yale University. He has taught or lectured and critiqued at Kansas City Art Institute, Knox College, Maryland Institute College of Art, University of Indiana, University of Chicago, Choate Rosemary Hall, Vermont Studio School, Northwestern University, University of Iowa, The American University. Since 1984, Mr. Gustin has taught painting and drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Israel Hershberg

Israel Hershberg was born in 1948 in a Displaced Persons camp in Linz, Austria. In 1949 he emigrated to Israel with his family and in 1958 moved with them to the United States, where he attended the Brooklyn Museum School in New York. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, and his M.F.A. from the State University of New York in Albany. He then taught at the Maryland Institute College of Art and the New York Academy of Art. His awards include: the Sandberg prize for Israel Art, 1991; and the Tel-Aviv Museum Prize for Israel Art, 1997. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries internationally. He is currently reperesented by the Marlborough Gallery in NY. Mr. Hershberg lives and works in Jerusalem and is founder and artistic director of the Jerusalem Studio School.

Eric Holzman

Eric Holzman received his BFA from the Tyler School of Art and his MFA from Yale. He also studied at the Skowhegan School and the New York Studio School. He has had solo exhibitions at Tibor de Nagy Gallery and Jason McCoy in New York, and the Prince Street Gallery. His awards include: Studio Space, P.S. 1, the Tiffany Foundation Award, the Guggenheim Fellowship and the National Endowment for the Arts. Eric Holzman Has taught at Bard College, Maryland Institute, University of Pennsylvania, Pratt Institute, the New York Studio School and the New York Academy. He has been a Visiting artist or lecturer at the Chicago Art Institute, Boston University, Knox College and Dartmouth.

Diana Horowitz

Diana Horowitz received her MFA from the Tyler School of Art Rome Program, and Brooklyn College. She has received awards and grants from the National Academy of Design, the Ballinglen Foundation, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the Rosenthal Foundation of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the Ingraham Merrill Foundation, and was awarded residencies at the MacDowell Colony and at Yaddo. Ms. Howowitz has had one-person exhibitions Hackett Freedman Gallery; San Francisco, PPOW, MB Modern and Hirschl & Adler in NY. Diana Horowitz has taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Tyler School of Art and Rhode Island School of Design in Rome, the NY Academy Graduate School, Brooklyn College, Boston University and SUNY Purchase.
